Why 'ME TOO' won't do
It was always the intention (and still is) that Brand Reminders would operate
in a niche market. For this reason we do not offer standard solutions or
catalogue merchandise. Likewise, many client companies know that one of the biggest problems facing them today is finding their own niche in the market
in other words finding a way to differentiate themselves from their competitors and be perceived as offering something different to their customers within a
highly competitive and crowded market place.
How to differentiate is a complex subject as it involves the total marketing
mix starting with the decision of the product or service ethos, including the product/s on offer, how a brand links in with the customer's lifestyle, the manner and attitude in how they do business with their customers, the
customers experience and how they'll interact with customers.
Solutions providers
Within the promotions arena Brand Reminders is being asked more and more to act as 'solution providers' in connection with differentiation. It's an interesting challenge as it covers promotions, product development, and the bringing to market of new products.
How do we approach this type of project? the simple answer is, with many years experience! We employ an entrepreneurial approach to business combined with the synergy of an extensive global supplier network who understands a combination of producing quality and bringing the product to market quickly. This diverse base of partners is dedicated to product development, design, sourcing and production.
Just do it!
There is a great advantage in being a tiny company - we can move fast, very fast! We have no teams, committees or meetings to discuss if we should do it this way or that way, as the famous NIKE strapline says 'just do it'. Whilst mentioning a sports business let me tell you aboutour latest successful 'solution provider' project.
A few months back I received a phone call and the caller told me he was involved with the marathon industry and because of the potential problemof dehydration he has to ensure that water is to hand for every runner. He told me that the problem is that runners don't like carrying a bottle for any distance as it causes cramp in the fingers. At the points where water is handed out runners tend to bunch up to grab the nearest plastic cup of water, this often leads to losing precious time, and worst because they are on the move the water tends to be spilt down their vest whilst they are trying to take a drink.
'is this something you can help me with'
Swig-on-the-run
Several days later I emailed my potential new client an image. 'Is this what I think it is' yes I replied it's a bottle with one side curved so that it fits the wrist, has a sports top, can be worn on either wrist and is held in place with a wide Velcro strap, and the front can be branded with the sponsors logo.
It's a hands free swig-on-the-run bottle I told him, with the biggest benefit being the runner can decide to take a swig when they feel like it.
I am pleased to say that our 'solution provider' service was successful. We received an order for 52,000 bottles for a European half-marathon. The bottles have also been produced in a special colour to match the sponsors (Healthcare) brand identity.
